An atmospheric sunset over fresh snow is a landscape photographer’s dream (or at least it should be!). In New England, it’s a once-in-a-while kind of occurrence. On this particular evening, Boston saw a few inches of snow during the day, and I was eager to get outside with the camera. The afternoon sky didn’t look promising, but minutes before official sunset time, I realized the sky was beginning to fill with color. I raced over to Auburndale Park in Newton and made my way down to the water, where I was able to photograph this winter sunset over the Charles River. The entire sky turned orange, then pink, and the color reflected off the frozen river and fresh snow along the bank. It only lasted a few short minutes, but that was all I needed to capture the image I had in mind.
