Snow on Cannon Mountain - White Mountains, New Hampshire

There’s nothing quite like winter in the White Mountains. The drive up I-93 through New Hampshire is one of my favorites because of the way the landscape gradually changes into mountains. Especially in winter, there is a point where the tree-lined highway opens into a glorious mountainous scene filled with snow and low-hanging clouds. Approaching Cannon Mountain, I was captivated by the contrast of white snow against the black granite rock, and I pulled off the highway to see about composing a photograph that could adequately capture the scene. The sky had enough texture to produce the black and white I was looking for, without overpowering the detailed face of Cannon Mountain. This was certainly a great way to start my day exploring the White Mountains!
